How A Website Audit Is Done
An SEO audit can be seen in much the same light as a car getting a tuneup. It should be done every so often to make sure that there aren’t any minor problems that could become more significant if they are left unattended. An SEO company will be happy to do this for you, Los Angeles businesses, or you can tend to these tasks yourself.
The Basics
Begin by crawling your site using a tool like Screaming Frog’s SEO Spider. This will allow you to get an analytics report on your site which is full of useful information. You can see how much your traffic has grown since the previous time you ran a report, and you can see how people are finding out about your site. You can see which pages are being visited the most, and the conversion rate.
Access
Next, you want to figure out the accessibility of every aspect of your site. Figure out if any of your pages are inadvertently blocking Google’s web crawlers, and fix the problem. If any of your URLs are returning errors, fix them. The same goes for broken links. Go through any redirections on your site, and make sure that each one goes to the proper URL. If any of them lead to error pages, correct them. Next, look to your Sitemap. Does it follow accepted protocol? Is the XML document well-formed? Have you submitted it to your webmaster tool accounts? You should also figure out how many clicks it takes to get from the home page to the other most important pages. Users should be able to reach them easily. Finally, use Google Pagespeed, Pingdom Full Page Test, or a similar program to do a full site performance analysis. If you find any problems, fix them accordingly.
Your Site’s Indexability
How easily indexed is your site? You can figure that out by using the Google “site.” command. This detects any duplicate content. If there’s any on your page, change it. The Google algorithm judges duplicate content harshly. If you have any “site penalties,” find them and take whatever steps are needed to correct them.
Once you’ve done all of this, you can consider your site to be well optimized. It will make things go so much smoother for your visitors, both the human variety and the Google crawlers that are sure to be stopping by.
