Because of that, you can see from the homepage links of your competitors where they are getting mentioned. Ask yourself “why is my competitor getting mentioned, and I’m not?” To get the answer, enter the name of one of your competitors into the Ahrefs Site Explorer feature. Then go to their backlinks report and you can see all of the backlinks that direct to their homepage.

But it’s an easy fix because by looking at the backlinks report, you can see which sites are most valuable for you to link to as well. Once you do so, you’ll be able to rank for all of the same useful backlinks that your competitor has. They won’t be able to get one up on you based on that criteria.
